Eating Disorders:

    Epidemic and Life-Threatening
According to the National Institute of Health, "10% of eating disorder sufferers die."
"Statistics indicate that eating disorders have reached epidemic proportions among high school students."
Adolescent Support Group
A Specialized Group for Adolescents Dealing With Eating Disorders and Related Issues, our group offers an innovative approach to treatment. The group process is used to address the psycho-emotional issues which underlie eating disorders. A focus of the group will be on the development of life skills that will help young adults deal with the feelings, thoughts, and developmental issues which must be addressed for their recovery to be accomplished. We offer young adults a safe, non-threatening forum for addressing problem eating behavior and related issues.

    Goals
To help members develop conflict resolution strategies
To help members develop decision making skills
To help members develop stress management techniques
To help members develop communication skills

Developing a Positive Self-Esteem and Body Image   An adolescent group focusing primarily on the development of a positive self-esteem and body image. This group is geared toward young girls who are motivated to move away from the symptomatic behaviors. Please call The Center for dates and times.

    Goals
Help adolescents identify the developmental and emotional issues which underlie their eating disorder.
Teach adolescents coping skills which they can use to effectively deal with their eating disordered behavior and underlying issues.
Change the destructive eating patterns involved in Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Compulsive Eating problems.

Working With The Family   When necessary, the family will be assisted in learning how to improve communication between parents and adolescents. Parents will be provided with a learning experience designed to increase their understanding of eating disorders and adolescent issues, help them deal with problems characteristic of teenagers, and provide effective limit setting.
