Treatment Modalities   Help begins with an initial consultation with a professional staff member who will take a client's full psychosocial history as well as a detailed lifetime eating pattern history. A personalized treatment plan, tailored to the needs of the individual, is then developed. In working with adolescents, we encourage input from parents in establishing a treatment plan. We offer a variety of treatment modalities to provide people with the assistance that can address their special needs as they struggle to overcome their food-related difficulties. Treatment may involve one or more of the following modalities:

Individual Counseling   Individual counseling is designed to identify and help each client learn to deal effectively with issues that underlie his or her particular eating disorder. Once we have established awareness of these problems, we use the therapeutic process to help clients learn alternative ways of coping. Center therapists work toward helping clients substitute positive behaviors for their dysfunctional eating responses.

Group Counseling   The goal of the Center's group counseling is to help clients recognize and express their feelings in ways that are healthy, rather than through the use of food. In addition to providing important support, our groups are able to help clients develop insight, since they are composed of people with similar symptoms who are learning to deal with similar underlying issues. The group also provides a non-threatening forum in which clients can learn and test new behaviors. The Center offers a number of specialized groups to address a variety of needs.

Nutritional Guidance   Staff nutritionists educate our clients about food intake, nutritional needs and activity levels to help them restructure their eating and activity patterns permanently. With individual professional guidance and reinforcement, Center clients can learn how to select a nutritionally sound, diverse array of food so that they can maintain a healthy weight that will help them enjoy a healthy, more satisfying lifestyle. Aftercare Program   The period immediately following hospitalization for the treatment of an eating disorder can be critical in the recovery process. Individualized aftercare programs involving the use and integration of a variety of Center services are tailored to the needs of our patients. Our goal is to help people maintain and build upon the gains and insight they established while hospitalized and move forward in the recovery process.

Family Counseling   Family counseling provides a supportive experience as therapists help relatives understand the disorder involved and its relation to them. They also learn how family members may be unintentionally supporting the client's symptoms and ways they can respond most effectively to the client's behavioral changes during and after therapy.

Parents/Family Problem Solving Group   The purpose of the family group is to provide support for family members and to help them learn effective strategies for coping and dealing with family problems. Group members will be provided with an opportunity to learn how eating disorders and related issues can effect every member in the family.
