COMPULSIVE EATING PROBLEMS:
The Treatment of Eating Disorders must help people develop interpersonal skills that will enable
them to cope with their feelings and life stress for true recovery to be accomplished. The development of such
skills is the goal of our coping skills group — which will complement and facilitate individual, group
and family therapy.
The topics for the group were chosen in response to the needs expressed by hundreds of
persons with eating disorders treated at The Center since 1983. Together these topics encompass
three facets essential to the successful treatment of eating disorders. They are insight-oriented in helping
clients to identify problems of emotional issues, supportive with respect to using clients' strengths, and
behavioral in their emphasis on developing techniques which will help clients translate insight into positive
behavioral changes relating to their disorder.
